Rules of the game

What equipment do I need?

You need a pair of bowls. If you are new to bowling you can use the club’s bowls until you are ready to buy your own.

New bowls will usually cost from £60 upwards. Second Hand from £40.

Other equipment you will need include a mat, jack and set of measures, these are all available from the club.

What footwear do I need?

Whilst on the green you must wear flat soles – for example trainers or pumps, this is to prevent damage to the green.

Do I need special clothing?

No, casual clothing is fine. In Crown Green bowling it is not customary for players to wear white outfits.

The Club has its own branded sportwear which is often worn by teams competing in league competitions, but this is entirely optional.

Does the club provide tuition?

Yes, the Club can arrange coaching on a one to one or group basis for new and less experienced bowlers.

What are the match fees?

To play in any league match, a fee of £1 is payable for each match.

How much does it cost to join?

If you would like to play bowls, the annual membership fee is £90, for those under 18 half the annual subscription fee . This includes the cost of a lifetime registration with the British Crown Green Bowling Association.

If you don’t wish to bowl, you can join as a Social Member for one third of the Annual Subscription. This entitles you to use the clubhouse, join in social events and activities and to help as a supporter or by learning to score in matches.

We look forward to welcoming you to the club
